Midwifery and the wrong things people think about it

Midwifery is a profession that takes care of expectant mothers. They provide prenatal care as well attend the birth. And they also provide postpartum care.In general midwives are not registered nurses but if they choose to become one then they can be and can do so. But they are regulated and governed. But where do the misunderstandings come in?
In general, the misunderstandings happen for those that do homebirths. In my practice of helping women as a San Diego midwife, homebirths are where people get confused.People think that home birthing is an unsafe way of delivering a baby. But for low-risk pregnancy undergoing home birthing is very safe. Also, midwives have some necessary medical equipments at hand in case something serious happens. And since the way they deliver babies is very safe most complications are avoided.
That is where the benefits come in. As some midwives in San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery. This is where no medicine is involved to help in labor. No medicine is administered to the mother during birthing. But not using medication to help ease the pain of birthing is a good thing since it makes the delivery happen faster. Because most women don’t realize medication actually slows down delivery. So by not administering medicine to the mother the delivery would be faster.
Another good thing would be when women deliver using water birth method because this has a lot of benefits for the baby and the mother. From doing waterbirth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery. The water actually soothes the muscles and allows easer delivery. Plus the shock and stress that the baby undergoes during birthing can be reduced by being released into water.
As you can see there are misunderstanding with midwives. But I’m hoping that you will understand that this method is safe for low-risk pregnancies. Plus midwives are regulated by a governing body. So midwives do have to go to extensive schooling. They have some know-how in medical procedures that is needed in birthing. So mothers should not worry about their safety while giving birth since midwives have all the necessary medical equipments for emergency purposes. This can be a viable choice for women with low-riskpregnancies.
Giving birth at home safely
One of the choices women have during pregnancy is how they will deliver. When I say how they will deliver I am referring to a hospital delivery or a homebirth. Most women don’t know that they have a choice on how to deliver their babies because they think that giving birth at their own homes is dangerous. But of course there are those who doubt the safety of this method. But with careful research they can see there is a lot of evidence to show that it is.
Now the safety of a homebirth has been questioned. From my observations from my practice as a San Diego midwife I have found it to be absolutely safe. The risks are the same either in a hospital or homebirth as I have witnessed from the 300 homebirths I have assisted in. Having it in a hospital or at home doesn’t minimize those risks. But it also doesn’t raise those risks either.
So what would be the main threat of undergoing a procedure like this? Well for one people worry if some complications occur. They say the people who administer the homebirth usually aren’t nurses. Well as a homebirth midwife in San Diego we do know medical procedures. All the necessary equipments for the common complications of a chilbirth are always with us.It is but natural that any serious complications that would arise during birthing should be addressed by a doctor. But that is still similar to what happens in a hospital.
Women who have low risk pregnancies are the only women recommended for homebirths. If it is known that a woman has possible complications while giving birth then the midwife would not recommend this method if she is good. This is standard procedure for all San Diego licensed midwife. This is standard procedure because they are limited in the medical procedures that they can do. That is why they do make sure any high risk pregnancies are delivered in a hospital.
For those who do not like this method it will be very hard to convince them to do so. But for those women who see this as an alternative they should understand it is safe.
Benefits of water birthing
One of the ways of having a baby that isn’t common but is gaining in some popularity is water birth. It is not like the usual way of giving birth where the patient needs to lie down on a medical bed.But it is a safe method to undergo when giving birth to a baby.
So what we are going to do is look at the water birth process and it’s benefits. These are going to come from experience that I have gained as a San Diego midwife.Water birth is the method of giving birth to a baby while the mother is submerged in water. Usually in a tub of warm water. The reason it is said to be good for the baby is because the baby enters into a similar environment. It is one way for the babies to get adjusted because they also have been in water for almost 9 months.
There are also studies where it is shown to be beneficial in reducing birthing pains. For women that is a big relief to here. Medicine is rarely used in this kind of delivery method. I have performed many without medicine as well as many other midwives San Diego I have spoken with.
Is water birthing a safe way to deliver a baby?It is safe to use for most of the cases as studies have shown. There are a few instances when it isn’t advisable due to certain medical conditions. I have had that happen in my water birth San Diego service. The best thing to do is consult a doctor first.
Reduced skin tears is another benefit that pregnant mothers get from having a water birth. This can be a painful occurence during delivery. But undergoing through water birthing will reduce those pains. Because it soothes the skin.
This could be the right method of delivery for you if you just follow these procedures. It has many benefits for both the mother as well as the baby. As always consult your doctor first to see if it right for you.
Other options to delivery
It seems commonly assumed that the way to deliver a baby is in a hospital. Or to be more specific it is assumed that medicine is necessary to deliver a baby. In this article we hope to point out some facts that break those assumptions. We are going to show you some other methods that might prove to be better.
Of course these observations are going to be coming from the viewpoint of my experience running a San Diego midwife service. If you don’t know midwives in general are women who help other women during the delivery of a baby. Most of the time with no medicine in a homebirth.
So why are there a few women going with this alternative method? For the many women that go with this method and understand it, it is because of several reasons.
First of all, when you don’t use medicine in the labor, it actually makes the process of labor and delivery faster. Most women don’t realize that the use of medicine actually slows down the labor.Women always use it because they are told it helps with the pain, but in reality it makes the pain happen longer. There are many certified midwives in San Diego who can show you proof of that.
Second, the use of the natural method and sometimes through waterbirth actually helps soothe and relax the bodies during delivery. This of course helps ease the pain and makes delivery happen much faster. I have seen it helping many women have a waterbirth in San Diego.
Those are just a few of the many reasons that a lot of women have gone with a homebirth to deliver their baby.So even without the use of medicine and although there are no doctors, this method has been proven safe. When the delivery is in the home, it helps foster a more private and personal environment.Rather than when you are in a hospital where there will be a lot of people who poke and prod during the labor part.So with those reasons in mind, many women are going with a homebirth. It is a dignified and safe way and a process that is natural.
Different options during pregnancy
One of the happiest times for a woman is during pregnancy. So many woman long to have children. It is during those pregnancy months that those desires start to now come true.
During a woman’s pregnancy, a bunch of decisions and options will have to be decided upon. One of the things to think about is which method of delivery will be used. Sounds strange to say it is a choice but it is. A lot of women usually go with using medicine to help deliver a baby. But there is a movement that is getting larger who decide to have the baby naturally. In other words no use of medicine to help with the delivery. I have seen this from first hand experience as a San Diego midwife. It is taken from that experience that I am going to express various benefits.
Now how come more and more women are deciding on having no medicine for delivery.A few reasons. First of all most women are realizing using medicine actually slows down the pregnancy. When you are in pain and want to deliver as fast as possible, medicine defeats the purpose. Many women are starting to realize that. What women don’t realize is that they can do it that way. If they decide to go that route, they can decide on going with a midwife. In my part of the country there are quite a few midwives in San Diego.
A midwife has the ability to assist a women to have a gentle delivery. They could choose a waterbirth. Waterbirth is the use of water to aid in soothing the pain and helping the delivery.
Also if a woman goes with that choice, a midwife can also assist in a home delivery also. Once again you can find a homebirth midwife in San Diego if you look.
The many benefits of having the delivery at home is that the environment is less stressed and more relaxed. These two benefits makes a natural delivery inviting. If you are with child, it could be a decision you might want to consider.
Natural Birth Choices
One of the sadder consequences of our modern day of medicine is the fact that birth and delivery are for all intents and purposes a medical procedure.
That might seem foreign to some people because most people already think of delivery as being a medical event. But that is the problem. It is not a medical event. It is an event that can be kept natural and as private as possible through alternatives. Women
should be made aware that there are alternatives.
I would like to present one of those main alternatives from the perspective of a San Diego midwife.
That main way is by having a midwife assist you in a homebirth during your delivery. This practice is known as midwifery and there are plenty of midwives San Diego.
As the amount of c-sections and induction rates rise in hospitals, it has transformed a very happy moment of delivery into a possible negative experience.
That is a big factor of this push you see of women seeking more natural methods of delivery through midwives that are either certified or licensed.
Labor and delivery doesn’t have to include drugs, invasive procedures, constant probing of private areas, etc. It can be done safely and effectively in a home environment through that homebirth method or even a waterbirth San Diego method.
It is an industry that is highly regulated. You are able to know all about a midwife’s experience and skill if you are considering hiring them.
But getting over that stigma of not having a baby in a hospital takes education. But most women can see if they looked and through experience that statistics prove that a good amount of times having a baby in a hospital can negatively effect the process. From the drugs they use to slow down pregnancy, or use to speed the pregnancy. To having to go through a c-section. Hopefully women can compare and contrast and see the success of having a midwife.
So for women who seek to keep a birth and delivery a happy occasion, midwifery might be something to look into.
With the day and age of the internet, finding information about the natural process is as easy as doing a search on the internet.
There they can find very helpful information so they can understand the process fully. They can view any safety concerns and how it is handled. And most importantly they are able to witness the keeping of the delivery of a child a monumental occasion that is kept private and is still a happy event.
Hiring a Midwife safety tips
Pregnancy, what a beautiful time in the lives of a woman.Well, except for the sickness. But beyond that, the thought of a new baby arriving is exciting.
Usually, for most women, how to have the baby isn’t a big question.Because most women just do it the usual way which is a medical procedure which includes hospitalization, doctors, and drugs.
But for a few women, they do have an alternative. That alternative is hiring a midwife and doing it the natural way. And it is that alternative I am going to share from my experience as a San Diego midwife.
For those that don’t know, midwives are women who perform natural, no drugs, deliveries. This means usually no doctors.
Often times midwives in San Diego perform these services at homes. Although, maybe all this is foreign to most people, it is a safe and regulated alternative way to deliver a baby.
The women, or midwives who practice this service are fully regulated. They can come in the form of a licensed midwife or a certified midwife with a regulatory board overseeing them.
Sometimes they can be nurse midwives, but that is not a requirement.
This form of delivery is an option a lot of women choose and includes waterbirth in San Diego. Most of the time this choice is made by women who prefer not to have any drugs during delivery so that they can keep the new baby away from drugs. Also it is for women who want to avoid invasive procedures like episiotomys.
When you are making a big decision such as the method of delivering your baby, you want to make right decisions. With anything, you want to be sure you choose the right person.
As previously mentioned, it is a highly regulated industry. In that case, it is pretty easy to find a good licensed midwife.
All you have to do is find your state regulatory board that oversees midwives and do a background check to see if there have been any complaints or issues with your prospective midwife.
With that simple step, you are able to determine if this is a quality midwife you can trust. Obviously once you find that there are no complaints or reports against the midwife, you also want to check references.
You want to find someone who has clients that only speak highly of them. With something as intimate and important as a delivery following these few steps will help you find the right midwife for your delivery.
Labor and Delivery with a Midwife
Labor and delivery; it brings joy but also pain for the woman. Obviously joy because of the new baby, but ask any woman, and they will tell you a source of unspeakable pain.
Well because of the pain that woman go through, there are two different schools of thought on how labor and delivery should happen. I am going to offer some perspective on one particular school of thought that I have gained first hand experience with by being a homebirth midwife San Diego.
There is the medical model for delivery which is associated with drugs to kill the pain, and sometimes cesarean to complete the delivery.
While there is a lesser known model, not as widely accepted, for those that have experienced it and believe in it, they consider it a safer alternative for the woman.
That model is the midwifery model as it is called. That is in obvious contrast with the usual medical model way of doing things.Where you have the medical model which depends a lot on medicine, midwifery prefers to rely on the natural. Midwifery believes that pregnancy and delivery is a natural process and thus should be allowed to happen naturally.
This model is carried out by a profession called midwives. Midwives San Diego are generally woman, who attend the birth, often times at the mother’s home. This midwife would then assist the woman in trying to get through labor as naturally as possible without medicine.
Contrary to most people's opinion, when medicine is not used during labor, it allows the labor to proceed much faster without the use of drugs to slow the labor down.
The midwife is a profession that has a regulatory board that oversees, certifies, and licenses the individual.
Although a lot of the times they are not a nurse or a doctor, a midwife sometimes is a nurse also.
Even though they are not a doctor or nurse, they do carry with them some medical equipment, such as resuscitation devices and suturing equipment.
So this is what a midwife is and what midwifery is in regards to pregnancy and delivery.
Their goals are to allow the birth and delivery to happen as naturally as possible. This makes the likelihood of a c-section less likely.Does not subject you to hospital procedures that are invasive such as episiotomys.Less medical intrusion will be used such as drugs to speed up or slow the pregnancy or the breaking of the water. And the part woman love the most, usually labor and delivery happen much faster naturally.
Hopefully this was informative and helped you understand some of the benefits of midwifery and having a midwife there for your pregnancy. At the very least, it gives you some different options to look into and explore. Remember this is first hand knowledge from a San Diego midwife.
