Having a baby is an exciting time for any couple. Sadly, conception doesn’t always happen immediately even if you beg for it. Before you start to wonder if the problem is associated with infertility reasons, may be you would like to first learn how to get pregnant faster. You might just need to pay attention to certain simple things you do to make all the difference. If you try these suggestions and you haven’t become pregnant within six months, you might want to speak to your doctor.

If you want to know how to get pregnant quickly, then you need to know how to take care of your own health first. If you smoke, quit. Smoking will cause more mucus production inside the cervix, and this will make conception more difficult. Smoking is dangerous for the fetus too when you do get pregnant. Perhaps the idea of having a healthy child will motivate you to quit smoking. There are other health considerations as well. Exercise should be part of your daily routine. You’ll want a healthy body weight. That doesn’t mean thin, you’ll want to know your body mass index (BMI). The optimum BMI for conception is 19-24. You’ll want to make sure you eat a healthy diet. Preconception vitamins – including folic acids – are good for supplementing your daily nutrients requirement.

If you want to know how to get pregnant faster, it is important that you understand more about your menstrual cycle. For a regular 28-day menstrual cycle, ovulation usually occurs around the 14th day. Having relations on the 12th day, the 14th day, and the 16th day will increase your chances of conception. If you have irregular menstrual cycle pattern, then an ovulation kit will be of great help. It will help determine when is your fertile days, so that you can increase your chances of getting pregnant by having intercouse on those days. There are several kits available on the market, and they’re very easy to use.

One thing that you must not forget about when you want to get pregnant faster is your partner. His diet plays a big role too. A diet that is rich in zinc will increase sperm count, and helps to increase fertility naturally. Good food sources of zinc are such as eggs and shellfish. Another thing that you will need from your partner is patience and understanding. Having sex frequently will not boost your chances of getting pregnant. The man’s body needs time to rebuild the number of sperms, so taking a day off from the ‘ritual’ will help increase your chances.

Infertility Stories

One of the most difficult things about dealing with infertility is the sense that you are the only ones battling to get pregnant. Recounting your infertility stories could be exactly what you need. ‘Twins on board’ stickers in the back window of the minivan, tricyclyes on the lawn – it’s easy to see who has kids! When a couple doesn’t have children, unless you are on familiar terms with them, you may never know whether it’s by choice or not. Before the days of the Internet you would need to look for a support group to hear other couples’ infertility stories, which can be quite a challenge for couples living in small towns. Moreover, there was quite a lot of shame attached to being infertile. Now with the Internet you can see how many other couples are going through the same thing, and you can experience the benefit of a cyber support group, in addition to a real-live group.

Infertility stories of all shapes and sizes are fairly simple to find on the Internet. You may read stories about couples who have finally had a baby after repeated miscarriages, couples who have had IVF or other fertility treatments, couples who have opted to use a donated womb, egg or sperm, couples who have given birth to twins (or more) from fertility treatments and couples who have chosen to adopt. You are sure to find something at least a little bit similar to your situation! The story that got my eyes all misted up was the one about a lady who donated an overy to her identical twin sister so she could have a baby! Same DNA, same basic building blocks for the eggs, no risk of rejection! I know that it could mean a risk of earlier menopause for the donating twin, but if I recall correctly, she had finished having babies so she was happy to help! It’s stories like that which really get me going.

On the other hand, I don’t know if reading or listening to a heap of infertility stories is always helpful. The majority of them seem to end with the couple getting pregnant though, which may encourage you, but they can also just make you more depressed. My humble opinion would be that while it’s a good idea to be part of an actual real-life support group while you read these infertility stories, since you need care that is seciallytailored for your situation, and you also should have a chance to share your own infertility story. You might give the explanation that there are no infertility support groups in your neighborhood, but have you considered creating one? You could be able to help many other couples going through a similar experience. You might already have heard of other couples who are struggling, but perhaps you can put up some posters at the local doctor’s rooms. You don’t have to be a certified counselor; all you need is a shoulder and an ear – a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen, and possibly a teapot too.

It is crucial to be able to tell your infertility stories, and to hear the stories of other couples too. As I mentioned before, maybe you should consider of starting one yourself. Sharing your infertility stories and realizing that you aren’t alone could go a long way to helping you thrive rather than merely surviving.

ARC, Cooper and Reach Infertility Clinics

One of the biggest difficulties in working through infertility is finding out which clinic to go to. With all of the clinics out there it is so complicated to make your decision. There are many clinics and you want the clinic with the best results for the most affordable prices. Success rates and stats aren’t always dependable though because some clinics won’t treat the really difficult cases and others don’t take miscarriages into account when working out their stats. So check with your clinic about how they put their stats together. It’s always helpful to ask around when you’re searching for a fertility clinic and I’ve written down some things I’ve heard friends talking about that might be good place to start.

You could look at a clinic that has branches all over the country, like the ARC clinics for instance. Incidentally, ARC stands for Advanced Reproductive Care. I quite like the fact that they offer reimbursement guarantees, in addition to the fact that they try to be affordable to start with. The handy thing about a pay back guarantee is that you have cash to try again if things don’t work the first time; very helpful considering how pricey the procedures are! You can also choose a monthly payment alternative if that suits your wallet better. My cousin told me it’s also quick and straightforward to apply and the staff and support teams are especially friendly.

Have you heard about the REACH infertility clinic situated in North Carolina? It seems that waiting for test results is one of the most taxing parts of infertility treatment – but you get your results much quicker there because they have their own committed laboratories. I’ve heard they’re one of the finest in the Southeast so it wouldn’t hurt to check them out if you’re in the area.

Oh yes, I nearly forgot, another friend of mine was at the Cooper infertility clinic, or the Cooper Center for In-Vitro Fertilization or something like that. I don’t know if they have a pay back guarantee but if you help another couple by sharing your eggs you could get your IVF almost free of charge.

Clearly these are only the ones I know about – they most certainly aren’t the only ones! You should probably ask your doctor about the infertility clinics in your area – I’m sure he’ll have a much better idea than I do!

The Most Effective Drugs For Combating Conception Problems

March 7, 2010 by

With the cost of ivf so high, many times when a woman is having problems conceiving, the fertility specialist will prescribe drugs. And, in the majority of cases, the drug recommended will be Clomid. But there are other drugs that can be just as useful.

There’s a secondary class of fertility drugs, not as popular as Clomid, known as gonadotropins. In terms of composition, they are somewhat like the FSH and LH hormones. Normally, these hormones are generated by the pituitary gland. If they are not, however, gonadrotropins can be used to replace the deficient FSH and LH hormones that would normally be produced by the pituitary gland. At one time, these drugs were produced from the urine of menopausal women. Today, however, they are genetically engineered. The woman takes thes drugs via injection in either in the buttocks or just under the skin.

Lesser prescribed fertility drugs include:

Human Menopausal Conadrotropins (hMG) – this is a distilled extraction of LH and FSH taken from the urine of postmenopausal women. It is injected either subcutaneous or directly into the muscle.

Human Chorionic Conadotropin (hCG) -  this hormone assists the ovaries in the making of progesterone and estrogen. In normal cases, ovulation usually occurs within 36 hours after injection.

Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) – this hormone triggers the pituitary gland to make the LH and FSH hormones. It is expensive and less available in the U.S. than it used to be.

Progesterone supplement – if the woman’s body is not producing enough of the progesterone hormone on it’s own, she may be given this drug. It is usually taken orally, but can be taken by injection as well.

If you monitor some of the Internet ivf message boards, you’ll find other effective drugs as well.

Each year, aw we learn more about the reproduction system, new fertility drugs hit the market. And, normally, there is no magic drug that can trigger fertility, at least not when used alone. These drugs are often used in combination with one or more other fertility treatments. In addition, in many cases the cause of the infertility is not with the woman. It may be that  the male’s sperm may be bad. In other cases, the cause of the infertility may be with the woman, but not related to hormones. In these cases hormone treatments will be useless.

Causes of infertility

It seems like a miracle that any babies are conceived without intervention at all once you’ve read this list of the causes of infertility! Believe it or not, this list is not meant to shock you. I’m just trying to help you be informed about what to expect. Being educated is so crucial when it comes to your medical care, because then you know what your alternatives are. So, get going on the process of informing yourself with this list below.

Men and women:

· Lubricant – Yes, you heard right, lubricant. If you make use of lubricant, just confirm that your brand isn’t unfriendly to sperm. Boosting fertility could be as easy as choosing another brand.

· Drugs – Things such as over-the-counter medication, prescription medication, tobacco, recreational drugs, caffeine and alcohol can all compromise your fertility.

· Stress – You have to be aware of when you’re ovulating to plan sexual intercourse properly, but if your cycle is messed up because of tension that may make life a little more difficult.

· Timing – Timing is the key! Try to ascertain when the woman is ovulating and you’ll vastly augment your chances of getting pregnant!

· Weight – Being obese is problematic for both women and men with regards to fertility, and women who are too thin may also battle to have a baby.

· Hormones – You may have too much or too little of one or other hormone. This brings about conditions such as PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).

· Scarring – If you have had abdominal surgery or surgery ‘down there’, there might be some scarring which might stop the tackle from working effectively. Some diseases may also cause scarring and fibroids can have the same effect as scars.

· Position – Unless you’re orbiting the earth having sexual intercourse standing up is unconstructive as the poor lads have to swim against gravity. Make life a tad easier for them and let the guy be on top.

· Illnesses – STDs and other diseases can affect your fertility negatively so have those sorted out.

· Organs etc. – Basically this is a ‘plumbing’ problem where some cavity, tube or appendage isn’t functioning effectively. For the guys this might include problems such as erectile dysfunction, for the ladies it could include things such as fibroids or endometriosis.

· Immune system issues – Sometimes the woman’s system is hostile to sperm and regards them as dangerous trespassers. Just as the woman’s body could attack sperm, the man’s system might attack his own sperm too, particularly after a vasectomy reversal and civil war is never beneficial.

Ladies only:

· Age – Egg quality decreases quite severely after 35.

· Abnormal cervical mucus – If there isn’t enough cervical mucus or it is the wrong consistency you may struggle to have a baby.

· Premature menopause – Too much exercise or eating disorders may cause the body to stop releasing eggs much earlier than normal.

Men only:

· Sperm – Who would have thought the tiny chaps could cause such a huge problem? Sperm have to be able to move well and there must be many the little dudes to ensure that at least a couple gets to the egg.

· Prostate infections – This may also cause infertility.

· Testes – If the testes are not completely developed, if they haven’t descended, or if they have been damaged then you might experience problems with infertility.

· Variococele – This is where the veins in the scrotum are enlarged and the sperm get too hot.

· Retrograde ejaculation – Sperm take a right instead of a left and wind up in the bladder rather than going out the urethra.

· Illnesses – Male infertility could also be brought about by illnesses like kidney disease, mumps or cystic fibrosis.

· Environmental pollutants – Polluntants such as pesticides and chemicals released by plastic as it degrades can damage sperm count and condition.

· Tight Undies – Tight jocks could lower your sperm count as the sperm get too hot.

As I mentioned at the beginning, this list is not intended to scare you, but to help you. Once you are aware of the causes of infertility you can figure out what action to take next.

If you don’t look after your cervix, infertility might be waiting for you

February 19, 2010 by

Just in case your anatomy education is a bit dodgy, the cervix is like the gateway between the vagina and the uterus. The cervix needs to be in good working order so that you can conceive and so that you can carry and deliver your baby when the time comes. To be able to get through to the egg, the spermies have to go through the cervix, so therefore if there are any blockages you may struggle to conceive. You only have one cervix, and that’s normally the only way for the sperm to get in and it’s the standard way for the baby to get out, so look after it!

Some things that can go wrong at the cervix are:

· Even though you might want a baby, your cervical mucus could be hostile to sperm. Generally, when you ovulate your cervical mucus (usually found at the vaginal opening) is a bit like egg white – clear, watery and stretchy. If your cervical mucus is hostile it basically means that either it doesn’t thin enough so the spermies can’t swim easily, or not enough is produced. To make the situation worse, your cervical mucus can hurt or kill the unfortunate sperms if it has anti-sperm antibodies in it. Just a small factoid while we’re on the topic, part of how hormonal contraceptives work is by making the cervical mucus thick so that the sperm can’t get through.

· Cervical stenosis is the narrowing of the cervix which might also impact your fertility negatively. You may have inherited a narrow cervix, or it could have become narrower due to scarring as a result of surgery or infection.

· Another big word associated with cervix infertility is Cervicitis. Essentially, the word simply means that the cervix is swollen or inflamed and this will influence your fertility and your ability to carry your pregnancy to term or to deliver your baby the usual way.

Looking after your cervix:

· To up your odds of overcoming cervical cancer, and to steer clear of surgery and other treatments you ought to have regular pap smears. You need to have a pap smear no less than once every two years from age 18 – more regularly if you are particularly at risk. An operation to take out a tumour can scar the cervix so that it doesn’t make the right kind of mucus or the opening becomes too small. You can decrease your chance of getting cervical cancer by limiting your sexual partners and waiting until 18 to become sexually active. No, that’s not a tall tale they made up to scare teenagers, it’s the truth, so warn your daughters.

· Be safe, don’t have an abortion, as every time someone sticks a sharp instrument up there your chance of injury goes up. Damage to the cervix can seal it so that it’s difficult for sperm to swim through, or it may prevent the cervix from working properly leading to something called an ‘incompetent cervix’ which increases your risk of complications and even miscarriage.

· Avoid cervicitis by not engaging in risky behavior when it comes to your sex life. STDs are not fun! I know I mentioned it before, but here you have it again: foreign objects up the vagina, multiple sexual partners, being sexually active before age 18, and other high risk behaviors can all lead to cervicitis and cervicitis can increase your chance of chronic pain, cervical cancer, infertility and pregnancy complications. Encourage others to be responsible about their sexuality as well.

So hopefully you can understand that if you have issues with your cervix, infertility is an issue you might need to deal with in the years to come. Luckily, many cervical complications can be prevented, so do you what you can to avoid them and encourage your daughters to look after their cervixes too!

The Importance of Acupuncture on Infertility

For centuries, the art and often referred to as the health practice of acupuncture has been present in various countries mostly in the Asian region. This defines the greatness as well as the grandiosity of pinning fine needles in different vital points of the body for different purposes like pain relief and treatment of some health ailments. The basic effect of acupuncture on infertility is regulating a person’s blood pressure through the proper stimulation of our central nervous system. It greatly encourages the production and release of endorphins that play a vital part of inhibiting the pain and neurohormones and neurotransmitters in making the body heal on its own.

Acupuncture on infertility is also seen as one effective means to treat infertility concerns particularly that of hormonal imbalance. The hormone levels are regulated accordingly by increasing the blood flow on various vital organs as it regulates the body system as well. Moreover, it aids in improving the significant functions of the ovaries and the follicles too. The endometrium is generally responsible for thickening the uterus lining which benefits from acupuncture because of increased blood flow. A specific treatment for infertility such as IVFor In Vitro Fertilization is also greatly supported to enhance its success rate. As a matter of fact, many specialists now offer acupuncture as part of what is known as IVF treatment. This becomes observable in the improvements done in the process of moving the embryo which would results to a more successful pregnancy. Another specific issue of infertility that can be treated as well by acupuncture is the presence of spasmed tubes. It can be done through turning these spasmed tubes into de-spasmed ones. Moreover, there are also lots of other infertility issues that can be effectively treated by acupuncture like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, elevated follicle stimulating hormone, repeated pregnancy loss, idiopathic infertility, luteal phase defect, hyperprolactinemia, and sperm DNA fragmentation.

The body can heal itself naturally and acupuncture only develops this ability. In this case, the more you treat yourself to acupuncture the healthier it is for you. For those women who are about to take IVF treatments or donor egg transfer, they are often dealt with acupuncture for about three to four months before undergoing the said process. Acupuncture is strongly advised for women before and after they have the embryo transfer. This is done for the purpose of enhancing the therapeutic effect along with different infertility treatments. Basically, fertility treatments are often stressful for the involved person. And what is considered the best remedy for this is acupuncture. Since acupuncture has a lot of ways to add in treating infertility, it is advisable for couples who suffer from it to give chance for every possible option.

Acupuncture also has accompanied risks but is very minimal. Nevertheless, miscarriage can take place as acupuncture is not done properly on a pregnant woman. This makes it significant to ensure that acupuncture is only to be done by a certified acupuncturist who is really capable and specializes in that type of therapy. Electro-acupuncture is the advanced form of acupuncture that inhibits pain during labor. Hospitalization needs can be significantly reduced which prevents a person to spend much.

Above everything, recent studies have disclosed that the right blend of herbal medicine, acupuncture, and traditional medical help serve as the right formula for infertility treatment. In a lot of cased, acupuncture and herbal medicines are found to be more effective with the help of traditional medical help.

The good news about infertility is that it’s quite widespread, so you can be certain that the chances are that there is something you will be able to do about your infertility. Who knows? It could be the simplest thing! Usually the primary move is to have some tests, both of you, and then you can decide the next move after that. Also, do some research of you own; when you identify the causes of infertility, you’ll quickly begin to see some of those solutions I referred to. Knowing that close fitting undies can decrease sperm count may encourage you to buy some boxer shorts. Besides, it’s generally helpful to know what your options are before you resort to the weird and the wonderful. Mystical fertility talismans deep in the frozen wastes of Siberia could have a reputation for inducing fertility but is it genuinely worth all that money to go and find out?

These days we tend to want to medicate ourselves for anything – as soon as you have a headache your first idea isn’t to maybe undo your hair or drink some water, you take a pill. Your legs cramp at night so you pop a couple of muscle relaxants rather than of eating foods with lots of magnesium. Perhaps you’re like that regarding infertility. You want the best treatment that the medical profession and you want it now, despite the fact that some lifestyle changes could be all that’s necessary to increase your fertility. To be fair, with all the publicity that it gets you may belive that IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) is your only option, and your toenails curl just considering it.

Eating healthily, getting sufficient sleep and taking some vitamins might be all it takes. Consider how you can adjust your sexual habits to increase your fertility – until now you might just have had poor timing!

So the lifestyle changes did the trick? Excellent! If not, there are other infertility solutions. If you’re not too enthusiastic to dive into the world of fertility medication yet perhaps you could try out some natural fertility treatments. The jury is still out on precisely how valuable they are at treating infertility, but things like aromatherapy, reflexology, acupuncture and others may also help.

Surgery may be beneficial to adjust any structural difficulties. Failing that you have access to some pretty advanced technology. You’ve got IVF and IUI, and ZIFT and GIFT too. You may even require some FASIAR or ICSI! Now don’t ask me what exactly those are, just know that they are options!

With some reading and a little effort you might discover many infertility solutions. Countless couples have been diagnosed with infertility, so you can rest assured that scientists are doing all they can to develop even more infertility solutions for couples like you!

Testosterone Infertility

February 2, 2010 by

It seems that you can attribute all the ‘flaws’ of the male race on testosterone. But, if you (the guy) have an excess of or not enough testosterone, infertility becomes a possibility. If testosterone concentrations aren’t spot on the guy will have a tough time making or delivering sperm.

The testes, protected by the scrotum, are where all the action happens and where the testosterone is produced. Two hormones FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone) stimulate the manufacture of testosterone. Consequently, if there is a problem with the pituitary gland, which produces FSH and LH, or the hypothalamus, which releases gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) which stimulates the pituitary to make LH and FSH, then testosterone production will also be influenced. Phew! In puberty, it is testosterone that stimulates the visible sexual characteristics – all those awkward things like voice breaking. Testosterone also keeps your sex drive in going.

If you are deficient in testosterone then you may have a condition called hypogonadism. As I said before, problems with the testes, hypothalamus or pituitary gland can lower your testosterone manufacture or it could be a problem that you are born with. The shortage of testosterone harms every aspect of your sexuality. You have subdued libido, erectile difficulties and low sperm count. Other indicators of hypogonadism include less facial and body hair, enlarged breast tissue, an increase in body fat, hot flashes and mood swings. Get yourself seen to by a doctor, as you will have to be referred to a endocrinologist (hormone specialist) to get an accurate diagnosis. You can treat the symptoms by replacing the testosterone in your system with synthetic hormones, but you’ll have to take extra measures to improve your fertility. Confirm that your doctor is aware that that you want to get pregnant as this could influence your treatment.

Believe it or not, hypergonadism, too much testosterone, could also be a problem! It’s easier to raise the levels of hormones than it is to decrease them, so it is more complex to treat hypergonadism, although the good news is that it is much less common. Men who suffer from hypergonadism will experience acne, early puberty, increased muscle mass (the only good news), enlarged breast tissue and abnormal hair growth.

Testosterone infertility is not only a male problem as women who have too much testosterone might have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), a widespread cause of infertility. Women with PCOS will battle to shed fat, and they could experience acne, irregular or absent periods and excess facial hair. So abnormal testosterone levels in men or women could bring about fertility difficulties. If you have the correct amounts of testosterone, infertility is less likely. Possibly the most difficult thing to handle if you suffer from hyper- or hypogonadism is your perception of yourself as a man, so don’t be afraid to get help.

Trying To Get Pregnant – Physicans Shocking Proof

It is such an exciting time in your life when you and your partner have decided to get pregnant and start a family. You are so excited that you cannot wait to get pregnant and tell your family and friends. You do not want to wait for a month, or two months, let alone 6 months or even a year or more sometimes. Every time you start your monthly cycle, you get frustrated and down, and it is worse when people ask you about it, or if you are constantly seeing pregnant women or babies everywhere you go. Believe it or not, there are multitudes of women that are going through this, and there are many of them that go to a fertility clinic or doctor to get medical help to conceive, however, they do not typically do anything unless it has been over a year. Who want to wait a year before they start doing anything about being able to conceive?

It sounds kind of hypocritical that women are made to carry the babies and give birth; however there are millions have infertility problems? That seems a little unnatural to me. Well, I am giving you 5 tips to get pregnant naturally so you will not have to set foot in an infertility clinic or a doctor’s office!

1) Having a healthy reproductive system is important for conception as well as carrying the baby. By taking Chinese herbs and using Chinese medicine, you will be able to get your reproductive system as healthy as possible and get you off to a good start.

2) Not only is it important to have a healthy reproductive system, but it is also very important for you to be healthy. By eating a healthy diet and doing regular exercise and increasing your vitamins and mineral intake this will get your body as healthy as possible and once again increase your chances of conceiving.

3) It is imperative that you do not get stressed or frustrated because you are having difficulty getting pregnant. If you are stressed, tense, frustrated or discouraged, so is your body. A great way to stay calm and even tempered, your body even tempered is by acupuncture, acupressure or femoral massages, which can also strengthen your uterine wall.

4) Take as many natural herbs and vitamins as you can on a daily basis. It will help your overall general health and cut your chances of having you have to go to a fertility specialist way down.

5) Keep careful track of your monthly cycle, and make sure you have your partner checked to make sure everything is ok with him. Once he is checked out and his sperm count is high enough, then the process of conception can begin. Be sure to have intercourse on a regular basis. Instead of having it once a week a few times a day, by having it every day or every other day throughout the entire month, your chances are higher by trying regularly.

Many women have been able to significantly up the odds of them to being able to conceive and carry healthy babies by following these simple steps. These steps may be able to be done pretty quickly and most importantly, with no medicine.
