Newspapers have been writing a lot about fertility and the fact that more and more women choose to start a family in their 30′s or forty’s. Women nowadays are highly likely to have a high flying career and be brooding about town trips, shoe shopping and sports autos, and far less about Mothercare, changing nappies, and pushing carts.
The average age for giving birth in the UK is going up about two months every year. The average age in 2007 was 29.3 years compared with 28.6 years in 2001. Statistics prove the average girl under thirty will get pregnant in the first 6 months and those in their early 30′s may take up to and longer than 9 months. From 35 onwards it might take one year.
Some girls are spending plenty of cash attempting to increase their possibilities of conceiving naturally, but this may be a needless cost. Lord Robert Winston, pioneer of IVF treatment, told the Daily Mail that ladies who freeze their eggs to obstruct parenthood are being given false hopes by fertility clinics. He is going on to say that this does not in any way guarantee that a women will become pregnant or go on to have a healthy baby.
So without ditching the thrilling lifestyle what can you do to help turbo-charge your wellbeing for that ‘maybe baby’ stage? Being healthy is far easier than you might think. Here are a few tips
For her :
Iron
Most ladies recognize iron as an important mineral for good health. Despite this knowledge, iron deficiency is regarded the most common nutritive deficiency and the most influenced group are ladies of child-bearing age. Studies have shown that even delicate deficiencies of iron are linked to reduced fertility. It appears that a deficiency of iron may perform a part in ovulatory dysfunction. Take daily Iron supplements ( look for non-constipating form )
Essential trans acids
The force on women to stay slim has lead to many women adopting very fat free diets. Unfortunately, this pattern of eating is related to a decline in fertility. The necessary trans acids ( found in nuts, seeds and oily fish ) have many functions across the body, including balancing the hormones involved in fertility. Try Omega 3-6-9 capsules with a mix of high quality fish, flax and borage oil.
Multivitamin and mineral formula
A multivitamin and mineral formula has for some time been regarded as a measure for general wellness and as health insurance. Studies now suggest that a multivitamin formula could also be of use for maintaining fertility in women. Studies in the latter 90s proved that ladies who constantly took a multivitamin formula, were less sure to be infertile due to ovulatory failure than people who didn’t. Similarly, the more frequent and regular the supplements were taken, the better the results .

Researchers at Yale varsity faculty of medication ( 2008 ) concluded ladies with ovulation problems or PCOS were much more sure to be short of vitamin D.

For him :
Your better half should be thinking along the same lines as you when it comes to living healthily. Sperm count and motility plays a particularly significant part in the act of making an attempt to become pregnant. Why do all of the hard work when your other half plays an equal part in the middle of conception? current figures ( from Norwich Union Healthcare in 2005 ) show that 2.5 million men suffer from sterility in the UK. Male infertility may account for as much as a 3rd of Problems with conception so it is important that your man takes similar steps to you to keep himself and his sperm in tip top health.
Zinc
Zinc is clearly one of the most vital nutrients needed for fertility, particularly for men. Studies show that a low zinc intake corresponds with a low sperm count and poor sperm motility.
Vitamin C
As an antioxidant, vitamin C is critical for good health. For men, this nutrient plays a specific role in enhancing fertility. Research has demonstrated that vitamin C may help to cut the clumping together of sperm and thus boosts sperm motility. In addition, vitamin C typically reinforces sperm quality and protects the DNA contained inside it from damage.

What to Expect with Baby's First Day Home
Why did the staff let me leave the hospital with this helpless little creature? Such were my thoughts the day I took my baby home. Newborns are so different than the cute, chubby babies I had babysat for long ago – and this baby was totally my responsibility! I was hit hard by reality – it was me who was the parent now. Yet, giving birth had not flipped some secret “confidence switch” into the ON position. Could I do this? How could I even pretend to be as capable as she was? It was time for a small panic attack.
If you are like me, the first problem is placing that tiny body into a car seat. We had bought the best baby travel system we could find. It had a car seat that detached from its base to become an infant carrier; it also attached onto a stroller base, giving a three-in-one bonus. The previously perfect infant seat seemed to have grown to huge proportions once our new baby was lost in it! Wasn’t she safer in my arms than alone in a car seat! Logic and my husband managed to convince me to let go. Newborns tend to scrunch down into one corner of their car seats no matter how you initially place them in the seat. This is a cute phase which lasts until baby gets some muscle tone and is more able to handle sitting. You should purchase some padded support for those first few weeks of amoeba life.
Once we were home, I struggled with needing to rest and wanting to be with our baby. Plus, she seemed constantly hungry. It was quite challenging to find a place in our home for nursing while we were both learning the process. Trying different nursing positions is key. Some people use ring slings, fabric carriers that allow you to carry the baby around with you. This can be a great way to position baby for nursing if you can find the right adjustment for you. I preferred to use my ring sling as a convenient hands-free carrier. After some trial and error over several feedings, I found the rocking chair to be my best option for nursing.
My baby needed changing every time she ate and often times in between her meals. Newborns have an output capacity that shames the most efficient factory. I had chosen to use Fuzzi Bunz cloth diapers. The adjustable elastic really helped in the learning stage for me and my baby. Those early days of a “liquid only” diet produce some interesting diaper “issues.” The first few days proved to have most of the largest diapering challenges. Have a few outfits ready for quick changes! Cloth diapers were good but at first they only worked as well as my attempts to get them fastened. And if you do not fasten them in time…they will not work at all!
An amazing new chapter of your lives begins with the first day home. Adaptability is the key to the first months. Your abilities will be constantly tested. Frequently pretending to be as in control and capable of child care as my mother, I found myself calling on all my resources. One day I realized she had probably been pretending as well – that day I realized I was a parent too.
How to Smoothly Transitioning Baby Home from the Hospital
As the birth of your newborn quickly approaches, it’s easy to get caught up in the bustle of daily activities and easy to forget some of the essential baby items which will make your infant’s first days home easy. By slowly purchasing your infant’s items before the due date, you’ll be able to avoid overlooked items by reviewing your purchases with ample time to procure any missing baby goods. Making the transition home from the hospital can be quite pleasing as long as you have a few essential items.
First and foremost, have a rear-facing car seat. The hospital will not allow you to depart with the baby without such a seat. It is not necessary to immediately have a stroller to bring your baby home though you may want to consider looking into baby travel systems which provide the required infant car seat and also a stroller which you’ll later need.
Not often realized by many parents are the benefits to the close-contact bonding of wearing your infant. Research has shown that the use of baby wrap and sling-style carriers that keep baby close to mom or dad offer many benefits to the baby’s development. Although sling-style carriers are not crucial to baby’s arrival day, many parents find it beneficial to begin as soon as possible.
You’ll need to have a place for your newborn to sleep once the baby arrives home. Either a crib or bassinet and bedding will be necessary. Some parents opt to purchase both a bassinet and a crib, as the bassinet offers a more confined space which tends to make newborns feel the most comfortable when first outside of mom’s womb. In several weeks to a few months, after your infant has become more acquainted with the outside world, he or she can more comfortably sleep in the crib.
As newborns want to feel confined and have difficulty with the regulation of their body temperature, receiving blankets provide both a health benefit as well as comfort. Their also [extremely usefulinvaluable] when those unexpected burp-time spit-ups occur. Tightly wrapping your infant in a receiving blanket offers a comforting sleep at night time and during the day.
Every newborn seems to have an endless appetite and pre-planning for proper feeding is very important. Many of the feeding accessories you need will depend on your choice of breast or formula feeding. Burping cloths, a handful of bibs, and even several baby bottles will be necessary for breastfeeding as well as formula-based babies, as breastfeeding parents often find that storing some breastmilk for future feedings is often necessary. If you’ll be formula feeding, you should have a couple weeks of formula before your baby’s arrival home. If planning to breastfeed, you may want to consider breast pumps and nursing pads.
Having plenty of diapers will be crucial upon your baby’s first day home. You may find yourself going through as many as 10-12 diaper changes each day. You’ll need to make the choice between using cloth or disposable diapers for your baby. Disposables are the easiest to use but can cost you quite a bit of money over the years you will spend changing diapers. One-size cloth diapers are also easy to purchase and use, but you’ll also need diaper inserts with them. Wether cloth or disposable diapering, you’ll need to have an abundance of baby wipes, a changing table or pad, baby powder, and diaper rash ointment.
Having initial health care items specific to your baby will also be very important. One such item is a baby first aid kit which should include a thermometer, nasil aspirator, nail clippers, and other basic infant care items. For baby’s first bath, make sure you have an infant tub, hooded bath towels, tearless shampoo, and baby lotion.
Though baby toys can be extremely fun to pick out, generally, your baby won’t need many toys during the first couple of months, but there are a few worth having upon arrival. Invaluable to your baby’s enjoyment are toys which can stimulate his or her senses. It’s to begin stimulating child development. Baby can find much enjoyment and comfort through the soothing songs and sounds of a soft toy or mobile.
By covering all of the essentials, you and your baby will find the transition home enjoyable. Keeping a proper perspective as to what’s really important within the first several week’s will help you plan well and keep the stresses that come with being a new parent to a minimum. Most importantly, don’t forget that this should be a joyous event for everyone in the family so don’t let any little oversights from detracting from this memorable time.
