What does a midwife do for pregnancy

When a woman is pregnant there are some choices to be made. She needs to go choose a doctor that suits her needs and wants. They need to find a suitable hospital where they can give birth to their babies. And other important things as well. Most women don’t realize that they also have the choice of opting for a natural delivery. That is the method where drugs are not administered during delivery. As a lot more people become health-conscious this method is gaining popularity.A profession that really helps in this area is called midwifery.
What is midwifery? It is defined as the practice of assisiting pregnant mothers give birth the natural way. Of course there a lot more defintions. But this explains it simply. As a San Diego midwife that is the job which is to help a woman attempt to deliver naturally. This can give a lot of benefits. Mainly of course no drug use. And without using drugs the delivery goes faster.Because most drugs administered during the delivery actually slows down the delivery.
Now not only are women attempting to deliver naturally there are some choosing the home. They are opting to stay in their houses to give birth to their babies. This seems a lot more different then people are used to.But it has lot of benefits in store for the babies and the mothers. As a homebirth midwife San Diego I have been able to see these benefits firsthand. One benefit that can be gained is the privacy of the place that will be used as the delivery room. Also less intrusive medical procedures are needed because of the way the delivery is done.
There will definitely be objections and sceptics will not stop looking for something to criticize. Some are doubtful about the safety of ths method. But if the pregnancy is a low-risk one then this method is very safe. But if the pregnancy is a high risk one then it would not definitely be recommended. In my midwife San Diego practice I always advise my clients to go with the normal delivery in a hospital if it is high risk. That way any concerns can be taken care of by a doctor.
Midwifery and the wrong things people think about it
Midwifery is a profession that takes care of expectant mothers. They provide prenatal care as well attend the birth. And they also provide postpartum care.In general midwives are not registered nurses but if they choose to become one then they can be and can do so. But they are regulated and governed. But where do the misunderstandings come in?
In general, the misunderstandings happen for those that do homebirths. In my practice of helping women as a San Diego midwife, homebirths are where people get confused.People think that home birthing is an unsafe way of delivering a baby. But for low-risk pregnancy undergoing home birthing is very safe. Also, midwives have some necessary medical equipments at hand in case something serious happens. And since the way they deliver babies is very safe most complications are avoided.
That is where the benefits come in. As some midwives in San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery. This is where no medicine is involved to help in labor. No medicine is administered to the mother during birthing. But not using medication to help ease the pain of birthing is a good thing since it makes the delivery happen faster. Because most women don’t realize medication actually slows down delivery. So by not administering medicine to the mother the delivery would be faster.
Another good thing would be when women deliver using water birth method because this has a lot of benefits for the baby and the mother. From doing waterbirth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery. The water actually soothes the muscles and allows easer delivery. Plus the shock and stress that the baby undergoes during birthing can be reduced by being released into water.
As you can see there are misunderstanding with midwives. But I’m hoping that you will understand that this method is safe for low-risk pregnancies. Plus midwives are regulated by a governing body. So midwives do have to go to extensive schooling. They have some know-how in medical procedures that is needed in birthing. So mothers should not worry about their safety while giving birth since midwives have all the necessary medical equipments for emergency purposes. This can be a viable choice for women with low-riskpregnancies.
Giving birth at home safely
One of the choices women have during pregnancy is how they will deliver. When I say how they will deliver I am referring to a hospital delivery or a homebirth. Most women don’t know that they have a choice on how to deliver their babies because they think that giving birth at their own homes is dangerous. But of course there are those who doubt the safety of this method. But with careful research they can see there is a lot of evidence to show that it is.
Now the safety of a homebirth has been questioned. From my observations from my practice as a San Diego midwife I have found it to be absolutely safe. The risks are the same either in a hospital or homebirth as I have witnessed from the 300 homebirths I have assisted in. Having it in a hospital or at home doesn’t minimize those risks. But it also doesn’t raise those risks either.
So what would be the main threat of undergoing a procedure like this? Well for one people worry if some complications occur. They say the people who administer the homebirth usually aren’t nurses. Well as a homebirth midwife in San Diego we do know medical procedures. All the necessary equipments for the common complications of a chilbirth are always with us.It is but natural that any serious complications that would arise during birthing should be addressed by a doctor. But that is still similar to what happens in a hospital.
Women who have low risk pregnancies are the only women recommended for homebirths. If it is known that a woman has possible complications while giving birth then the midwife would not recommend this method if she is good. This is standard procedure for all San Diego licensed midwife. This is standard procedure because they are limited in the medical procedures that they can do. That is why they do make sure any high risk pregnancies are delivered in a hospital.
For those who do not like this method it will be very hard to convince them to do so. But for those women who see this as an alternative they should understand it is safe.
Benefits of water birthing
One of the ways of having a baby that isn’t common but is gaining in some popularity is water birth. It is not like the usual way of giving birth where the patient needs to lie down on a medical bed.But it is a safe method to undergo when giving birth to a baby.
So what we are going to do is look at the water birth process and it’s benefits. These are going to come from experience that I have gained as a San Diego midwife.Water birth is the method of giving birth to a baby while the mother is submerged in water. Usually in a tub of warm water. The reason it is said to be good for the baby is because the baby enters into a similar environment. It is one way for the babies to get adjusted because they also have been in water for almost 9 months.
There are also studies where it is shown to be beneficial in reducing birthing pains. For women that is a big relief to here. Medicine is rarely used in this kind of delivery method. I have performed many without medicine as well as many other midwives San Diego I have spoken with.
Is water birthing a safe way to deliver a baby?It is safe to use for most of the cases as studies have shown. There are a few instances when it isn’t advisable due to certain medical conditions. I have had that happen in my water birth San Diego service. The best thing to do is consult a doctor first.
Reduced skin tears is another benefit that pregnant mothers get from having a water birth. This can be a painful occurence during delivery. But undergoing through water birthing will reduce those pains. Because it soothes the skin.
This could be the right method of delivery for you if you just follow these procedures. It has many benefits for both the mother as well as the baby. As always consult your doctor first to see if it right for you.
